From 25th to 29th October 2021, the Kaunas University Technology organised the C7 – Short-term joint staff training in Technological innovations for structural rehabilitation in Lithuania as part of the Smart Rehabilitation 3.0 project. In order to define the topics to be considered for future “Building Rehabilitation Experts” (BRE), the partners had been the possibility to exchange knowledge and experiences, and debate about how to develop training methodologies and tools on specific topics concerning the technological innovation in structural rehabilitation in the different European countries.
The training activity started at the Kaunas University, Institute of architecture and construction with a short presentation and a visit to the applied researches of materials and constructions for rehabilitation. After it, a technical visit was organised to different Kaunas modernism historical buildings, as examples of modern technologies and materials from 1918 – 1940. Complemented by a meeting with the Head of the Cultural Heritage Department of Kaunas Municipality, presentation on Kaunas city building rehabilitation policy. With the technical visits to the Kaunas castle and Bernardine friars’ possessions as examples of rehabilitation.
After the Kaunas visits, a study tour in Lithuania began with the technical visit to the Open-Air Museum; Barborlaukis manor; Skaruliai church; Pagulbis farm; Palūšės church; Paliesius manor; Liubavas manor and mill as examples of traditional materials and technologies for rehabilitation. The tour finished in Vilnius with technical visits to the future Museum of wooden architecture, now under rehabilitation, to rehabilitated Vilnius international school and to Žvėrynas district with wooden houses, as example of restored, renovated wooden houses.
The activity also included interesting technical visits to Šančiai wooden district as an example of heritage and communities engaged or to Fixus mobily group project, as example of preventive maintenance of historical buildings with mobile workshops. The course finished, after five full days works, with a debate and remarks for the future of the Smart rehabilitation 3.0 project.
